- Birth-related financial assistance
Birth is not classified as a disease so that there are no health insurance benefits with
regard to birth. The costs of the medical services related to birth differ depending on the
doctor and the hospital involved.
However, the medical costs related to giving birth in a public hospital are around 300,000 yen. In the case of abnormal births, insurance benefits are available). However, if you are covered by one of the government-managed health insurance plans, if you apply to your company (in the case of Social Insurance) or to your local ward, city, town or village office (in the case of National Health Insurance), you can receive a special benefit for birth that will help to pay part of the costs.
