Vehicle Insurance
- Car insurance can be roughly divided into two categories. One is legally required Compulsory Vehicle Liability Insurance and the other is optional liability insurance that can be purchased on a voluntary basis. Vehicles without compulsory vehicle liability insurance can be used in Japan.
- Compulsory Vehicle Liability Insurance
This insurance is aimed at compensating for injury and death incurred by other parties. The amount of coverage is limited to a specific amount and does not cover damage to property or the driver's (policyholder) car. When applying for inspection, reporting the use category of the vehicle and for vehicle registration, the user of the car must have a Compulsory Vehicle Liability Insurance Certificate or such procedures cannot be completed.

- Non-Compulsory Car Insurance
In order to cover damages not covered by compulsory car insurance, drivers may purchase combined coverage policies that include the compulsory insurance and also non-
compulsory car insurance, the latter of which covers other parties, property damages, passengers in the insured's car, the car itself (Self-Insured Car Insurance Package).
Various types of increased coverage are available. It is advisable to investigate the various car insurance coverage products of the various companies and pick a car insurance policy that suits your personal situation.
