- Requesting the services of a moving company
- In Japan, there are many moving companies so that it is probably advisable to ask for estimates from several different companies. There are also companies that will rent you a truck if you decide to make the move by yourself.
- Large-size trash
- If, when you move there, is a great deal of trash to be thrown away, if you contact local ward, city, town or village office, they will cart it away for a fee.
- Things to do before moving
- Contacting public service organizations
When it becomes certain that you are planning to move, you must contact the public services organizations:
-
Electricity, gas, water |
- (1) Give them the address of your new residence.
- (2) Tell them the date you plan to move.
-
- It is convenient if you have your customer numbers that are noted on your receipts for these services.
- You will have to be present when the gas service is connected at your new residence so set a date that is convenient for you.
|
| NTT |
Call 116 (toll free) and tell them the address of your new residence and the day that you are planning to move. It is convenient to be able to use the telephone on the day that you are moving so arrange to have NTT cut off the service on the following day.
|
| Post office |
Get a moving notice post card at your local post office, fill it in and send it in. If you do this, for one year, all the mail that comes to your old address will be forwarded to you at your new address.
|
| Financial institutions |
It is possible to do everything by mail so just contact your bank, etc. and give them your new address.
|
| Health Insurance |
If you are a member of the National Health Insurance Plan, return your National Health Insurance card to the person in charge at your local ward, city, town or village office.
|
Changing schools
(Primary and middle schools) |
When your plans have become firm concerning moving, contact the schools that your children are attending. Pick up the documents necessary for changing schools and after you have finished completing your children's foreign resident registration in the new area where you will be living, contact the local Board of Education and get their advice on which school your children should enter.
When this is decided, submit the documents to the office of the new school.
