Primary and middle schools (Public)
- In the case of children with Japanese citizenship, they are legally required to attend, but it is not legally required for the children of foreign residents to attend primary or middle schools.
When foreign residents wish to enter children in public primary or middle schools for
which they qualify by age, it is possible to place your children in a public primary or middle school by applying to the Board of Education of the local ward, city, town or village where you are registered as a foreign resident.

Enrollment procedures
- Carry out alien registration procedures at the local government office in the area where you live.

All schools have PTAs. These are associations consisting of teachers and parents that have the aim of increasing mutual understanding of factors related to the health and education of the pupils. The associations carry out many different activities. There are membership charges, but the manner in which they are paid differs by school. |
